Don’t Ignore Symptoms

On my 22+ year Cancer Journey I’ve learned a lot about the body and it’s ability to heal when given the right tools. There are so many variables that play into healing, no matter what dis-ease you are dealing with, that there is NO MAGIC PILL.

As I’ve stated in previous blog posts, I am not oblivious to how cancer affects various people and have listed some of those people, many who were very dear to me.

I recently lost another friend to cancer who was told by the doctors that chemo and radiation would give them maybe 3-6 months to live and that doing the natural route would give more time, which this person had one year more of life. I had such high hopes for this person and had suggested various viable options. I’d also taken the opportunity to fill in as caregiver a few times for this person, as they got to the point of needing someone in the home 24/7.

Both times that I was diagnosed I found the tumors myself. At that time there were NO Health Coaches, the wealth of information on the internet, or support groups for those refusing chemo and radiation and choosing rather to take the natural healing journey.

I waited almost a year to find a doctor from the time I found the first tumor. BUT, I did not ignore the symptoms the tumor gave. I immediately paid attention to what caused the tumor to hurt and grow and cut those items out of my diet, which brought relief and kept the tumor from spreading.

The second tumor I found myself and realized it was my wake-up call to take the path less chosen which Yahweh-God my Creator had asked me to take 5 years previously after finding the first tumor. As I mentioned, there were no health coaches to talk to, no support groups in which to get support. I was on my own. I’d been used to a “See Food” diet… I see food, I eat it, and had not been affected by anything I ate. My downfall between tumors was that I missed the ‘see food’ diet I’d been on for so long and began comparing myself to others who had had cancer diagnoses. I began asking myself, “They had cancer and can eat that, so why can’t I?”

Galatians 6:4-10 tells us “Don’t compare yourself with others. Just look at your own work to see if you have done anything to be proud of. You must each accept the responsibilities that are yours.”

My husband and I have a saying… “The longest road a person can take is from their head to their heart.” My first tumor journey the route to take was all in my head. The second tumor journey moved my journey to my heart where it has been ever since.

I listened to my body. Symptoms are your body sending messages to you that something is not balanced, no matter what health challenge you are experiencing… the common cold, sore throat, allergies, flu, cancer, etc.

Ignoring symptoms cost the life of a young teenager I knew who was diagnosed in the morning and died that very evening.

Ignoring symptoms lead to a Stage 4 with metastasizing diagnosis, lots of pain, dedicated hard work, ceasing of activities this person loved to participate in, isolation due to lack of energy and intense pain, and an untimely death.

I and so many other survivors I know have had to make unpopular lifestyle changes including going Plant-based, which can bring isolation and snide remarks by people around you. Unfortunately, all of the family and friends I’ve lost due to cancer were unwilling to make the change to Plant-based. My mind questions, “What If!“. But I also realize, it was their bodies and their choice.

What symptoms might your body be sending you? Are you listening? Or are you ignoring hoping they will go away on their own?
