In my last blog, Walk Down Memory Lane, I spoke about the Mullein plant in my yard that grabs my attention every time I walk by it. I also asked if YOU know the value of that plant or if it is just a weed in your book.
Soon after publishing that blog I received a message from someone asking if my husband and I would be at an upcoming conference. My response was, “We’re not on their radar so know nothing about it.” The sender’s message also referenced a past conference that I was a speaker at and that I had provided outside-the-box food samples; the sender stated, “They should have let you cater that event!”
My husband and I are also preparing for being vendors at another upcoming conference. Looking at the line up of speakers, along with the above mentioned message and the weed question in my last blog, has me thinking about the value we place on ________________ (fill in the blank).
The message sender KNOWS mine and my husband’s value. Are Tim and I just invasive weeds, maybe with thorns, to the conference organizers and others? Or, is it that some of them just have not spent time with us like the message sender, so how can they know our value?
Tim and I KNOW we have been called and set apart by Yahweh-God our Creator / Yahweh-El Roi / Jehovah Mekoddishkem to be like Daniel, Noah, Jeremiah, Jesus Himself. We are truly humbled and honored when we realize WHO ordained us, called us, and trusted us so much with this mission. We KNOW our message is not popular, causing some who hear us to classify us as thorns or invasive weeds.
This whole invasive weed topic resonated with Tim, who has a passion for mentoring. The thought that came to his mind when I mentioned what’s been going through my mind since publishing Walk Down Memory Lane was, “Are husbands invasive weeds to their wives? Are wives invasive weeds to their husbands?“
All of this has lead us to questioning what else do we and others ‘see’ as invasive weeds?
The plant in the picture is beautiful to me, in spite of the thorns on it. I’m still researching what exactly the plant is and have asked several people I thought would know, including two Master Gardeners who responded, almost in panic mode, “It’s a VERY INVASIVE WEED!! You need to get rid of it ASAP!! BUT, it grows deep roots making it challenging to completely get rid of.”
Hmmm… what else do we classify as Invasive Weeds?
- Children?
- Husband?
- Wife?
- Bosses?
- Co-workers?
- Parents?
- Neighbors?
- Pets? Maybe that dog that won’t stop barking? Could there be value to that barking that you don’t yet understand?
- Dis-ease? Could there be a lesson to be learned? I know my TWO Cancer diagnoses were my TEACHERS who became valuable FRIENDS to Tim and I.
- Projects we find ourselves involved in?
- Dandelion?
- Bats?
- Snakes?
What could you add to the list?
What does Yahweh-El Roi say about value?
- Jeremiah 1:5
- Psalm 139:13-18
- Isaiah 43:1
- John 3:16-18
Over this 22+ year natural healing journey Tim and I have learned so much about how Yahweh-God our Creator placed natural remedies in close proximity to things that cause discomfort or other challenges. We’re learning the value of plants; the value of the various snakes and how certain ones, when allowed to exist, take care of the population of less desirable varieties. We’ve even learned that possums are very gentle creatures that help control the population of ticks and other less desirable creatures. And that crows control the hawk population, so are very valuable to people with small pets and animals. Before spending time learning about and getting to know each item mentioned above, Tim and I saw NO Value in each.
Tim and I are so thankful to be outside-the-box! Yes, it has challenges, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Where are you? Following along to get along or be liked and accepted? Devaluing someone or something because of a lack of spending time to learn about and get to know them or it?
