Flashlights & Batteries

Today on the radio I heard an analogy that I have to write about before I forget it. So, I thought I’d blog it and share it with you!

When the battery dims or dies in a flashlight what do we do? Throw the flashlight away? Replace the batteries?

If we are replacing the batteries, which type is right for that flashlight? Will a watch battery work in a flashlight? Just because it’s a flashlight will any ‘flashlight’ battery work? Hmmm… sounds like the ‘One-Size-Fits-All‘ blog I wrote not too long ago.

If a person is struggling and in a dark place, do we toss that person aside?

What type battery might they need from us?

• • Type AA – attention and affection?
  • Type AAA – attention, affection, and acceptance?
  • Type C – compassion?
  • Type D – direction?
  • If they still don’t seem to shine, simply sit with them quietly and share your
    light?

Ever been a dark place where you struggled to shine?
What did that look like to you? Which battery type did you need? Was there someone there to help you recharge?

PLEASE, do NOT respond with, “You’re never alone; God is with you“! While that certainly is true, He created us to need each other. What verses speak to this? The one’s that come to my mind include:

  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
  • Genesis 2:18
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Who do you know that might need a ‘battery’ from you right now?
